Zardari phones Nawaz, agree to meet soon

JUly 14 - President Asif Ali Zardari contacted Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz chief Nawaz Sharif over the telephone on Monday, and the leaders “agreed to meet soon”, according to the presidential spokesman.

Spokesman Farhatullah Babar said the president thanked the PML-N chief on his 10-minutes talk for his support to the internally displaced persons. “The two also agreed to meet in the near future,” he said.

Both the leaders last met on November 8 at a dinner in the Presidency.

Sources said it was an ice-breaking initiative on the part of President Zardari in which he appreciated the efforts of the Punjab government and the PML-N for providing relief to the IDPs.

Nawaz Sharif responded positively and told Zardari that the PML-N would always support the government for national causes and to resolve the people’s problems.

There was a consensus between both the leaders that the implementation of the Charter of Democracy would pave the way for the reconciliation between the two parties, reported The News
