Karachi- River at the doorstep

JUL 20 - A bridge near Maripur police station at Hawks Bay Roadd and one linking the Karachi Airport to Gulistan-e-Jauhar have been washed out due to the rains, Geo TV reported today. Meanwhile rain related death toll has risen to 55. The rainstorm has broken the 30-year record with some areas receiving more than 8 inches of rain.

People irked by prolonged power breakdown hit the streets and started protest against the power outage. During the power protests clashes erupted between the angry mobs and police and a man was killed in Hyderi and several others were injured in police firing and shelling at the protesters.

Torrential monsoon rain over the weekend killed at least 55 people and left most of the port city without electricity. The rain flooded low-lying parts of the city, damaging hundreds of houses, downing power lines and inundating power grid stations.
