JULY 19 - The Nation reports today: "Who removed the portrait of the Father of the Nation, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah from the auditorium of the PM House before Premier Yousuf Raza Gilani arrived there to address the media Saturday, will remain a mystery till authorities concerned finally resolve it".
"Before the news conference started, journalists present observed that the portrait of Quaid-e-Azam Muhmmad Ali Jinnah was missing while cameramen of various private TV channels were taking visuals of the portraits of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed and late Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto placed on the right and left of the auditorium wall bearing only a nail in the middle but with no portrait of the Quaid."
The Nation adds: "It was only then that the organizers of the press conference realized the importance of the Quaid’s portrait. They immediately produced the missing portrait and fixed it in the middle of the two PPP leaders' portraits. Many journalists present in the auditorium witnessed the scene of how the organizers fixed the portrait on ‘emergency basis’."
It is worth mentioning that a few weeks back one of the private TV Channels broadcast news report with video grabs on the absence of Quaid-e-Azam's portrait from the Aiwan-i-Sadr and PM House but it was strongly denied and the news rejected by the government.
Photos of missing Quaid picture from the President House wall was also flashed in the media. In fact one of the official government news agency (APP) photos itself shows that the Quaid portrait was missing from the wall when President Zardari and PM Gilani invited the winning T20 cricket team member for dinner and had a photoshoot taken. (See above pic).
It is an abhorrent case of accidental or deliberate mismanagement - condemnable by all.
